Posts are the whole story
Almost every fence fails at the same place: the post, at ground level, where moisture collects. Pickets and rails weather slowly and visibly. Posts rot from the inside out and look fine until the day the fence leans.
This matters for cost because resetting a post means digging out the old concrete footing, which is the labor-heavy part of any fence job. Replacing ten pickets is an hour. Resetting three posts is most of a day.

Does homeowners insurance cover fence damage?
Storm and impact damage is often covered subject to your deductible; rot and age are not. Given typical deductibles and typical fence repair costs, many repairs fall below the deductible. Photograph the damage before anything is moved either way.
Who pays when it is a shared boundary fence?
